Our History
John N. Causie founded Causie Contracting, originally known as John Causie Construction, in 1966 with just three employees, a pickup truck, a two-ton truck, and three chainsaws. The company's initial projects focused on tree removal, tree planting, landscaping, and installing guardrails throughout central Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. By December 1972, Causie Contracting was officially incorporated. Shortly after, the company diversified into concrete pavement repair, rotomilling, and small bridge repair.
In 1983, Causie Contracting embarked on its first out-of-state project in Byron, Georgia, and in 1984, the company began working in Florida. The expansion continued in 1991 with work in Kentucky, followed by South Dakota in 1992, and South Carolina in 1995.
Today, Causie Contracting remains a family-owned and operated business. John Causie’s two daughters currently lead the company. His eldest daughter, Sheryl Arnett, joined the company as a general laborer in 1982, transitioned to Payroll Clerk in 1986, and now serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate President. His second daughter, Susan Brooks, started as a general laborer in 1985 and is now the Corporate Secretary and Fleet Manager. The executive management team also includes Dale E. Arnett, John Causie’s son-in-law, who was hired as a general laborer in 1973 and now holds the positions of Chief Operations Officer and Chief Estimator.

As Causie Contracting has grown geographically, so has our dedicated team. Our workforce now includes talented individuals from Michigan, South Carolina, and Georgia, each bringing unique perspectives and skills that enrich our collaborative environment. We are committed to not only achieving our goals but also to cultivating long-term partnerships and providing exceptional service.
